Weekend entertainment ideas for your West Cobb County preschooler

Posted on 08-13-2014

Far too many preschool children spend their weekends sitting in front of a television or a gaming console. While this is fine in small doses, it is important to remember to keep your child active and mentally stimulated even over the weekend. Here are some weekend entertainment ideas for your preschooler:

Camping in the backyard

This is a wonderful activity that requires very little preparation or effort. Simply grab a tent or some blankets and sleeping bags out of the closet and set this up in your backyard. You can spend the evening with your child putting up the tent, bringing in some cushions and enjoying the outdoors. A preschool child will find this activity exciting and will be willing to learn more about camping. Talk with your child about how, when they are a bit older, you can go camping together away from home.

Introduce digital playground apps

If you have a Smartphone or a tablet, allow your child to play with a few digital playground apps. This could be a fun activity to do while in the tent in the backyard. These apps allow your young child to learn while having fun. These apps are also far more beneficial than just sitting in front of a gaming console. Additionally, you can access online interactive books for your child to enjoy.

Teach your child how to play a sport

Teaching your child the basics of a sport is a great way to get out of the house and exercise. Teach him or her how to throw or kick a ball, such as a soccer ball or tennis ball. You can also find a larger bouncy ball to play together by bouncing the ball back and forth between the two of you.

These are just a few activities you can try at home with your preschool child over the weekend. Here at our AdvancED accredited Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of West Cobb, we offer our stimulating preschool fast track curriculum to keep your child active and learning during the week.
